Bundle Branch Block and Life Insurance.

When you apply for life insurance, your current health status is something a life insurance provider will take into careful consideration. Applying for a policy with bundle branch block can be a daunting task; you may fear automatic rejection. The good news is some people with bundle branch block will still qualify for a high risk life insurance policy.

Life Insurance with Bundle Branch Block.

What is bundle branch block?

Your heart keeps beating thanks to the help of very important electrical impulses. These impulses travel from your brain to your heart through different pathways. If there is some kind of delay or obstruction along the way, it could be due to blockage. This is known as bundle branch block. Because your heart is made of four different chambers, the blockage likely occurs on one side or the other.

Right bundle branch is when the blockage occurs on the right side of the heart. It is likely to be less serious than left bundle branch block. Many people with right bundle branch receive a standard rate for life insurance. However, if you have complications or severe symptoms, you may face a premium.

Left bundle branch is likely to be more serious than right bundle branch because of the root cause of the blockage. Many cases of left bundle branch block are caused by heart disease, and a person with heart disease is considered to be a greater health risk than those without. If you have left bundle branch block, then it is quite likely that you will be charged a premium if you are approved for a life insurance policy.

If the block occurs, causing the impulse to first reach the left posterior fascicle, delaying before reaching the other parts of the left ventricle, then this is known as Hemiblock. This is something different from bundle branch block. Usually, hemiblock is less serious than bundle branch block, and thus it’s not that difficult to get life insurance coverage. Hemiblock may lead to a premium, but it isn’t that common that hemiblock will be serious enough to have you disqualified from life insurance. In the best case scenario, a person with hemiblock could even qualify for a standard life insurance rate.

For those clients with a more serious type of bundle branch block and/or a diagnosis of heart disease you may need to consider burial life insurance through the best final expense and burial insurance companies.

What will a life insurance company ask me before approving me for a policy?

Whenever a life insurance company considers an individual for a policy, they will go through the applicant’s medical background. A medical issue such as hemiblock or bundle branch block is a red flag that will cause the insurance company to take a closer look. Most life insurance companies will do this investigation by asking for a physical exam and/or asking you to answer a series of questions. An insurance company may ask you some or all of the following:

  • When were you diagnosed with bundle branch block/hemiblock?
  • What is your exact diagnosis?
  • What symptoms have you experienced in the last six months?
  • Have your symptoms increased in the last six months?
  • Have you ever been hospitalized for bundle branch block?
  • Have you ever worn a heart monitor? If so, what were the results?
  • What is your treatment plan? If you have had a different treatment plan earlier, please describe that as well.
  • When was the last time you visited your cardiologist?
  • What was determined in that visit?
  • How often do you visit you cardiologist?
  • Have you had an ECG in the last one year? What were the results?
  • Have you been recommended or do you have a pacemaker?
  • If you do have a pacemaker, how long have you had it?
  • Have you had heart surgery such as bypass surgery?

These are just some of the possible questions a life insurance agency will ask you in order to determine if they want to offer you life insurance coverage, and at what rate.

In addition to answering these questions, a life insurance company will probably request a medical exam to determine your current health state. Objecting to a medical examination will limit the different types of life insurance you qualify for—if you are in relatively good health, the medical examination will help you get more coverage.

How do I know which life insurance agency to choose?

When you have a medical condition such as bundle branch block, it’s important to choose the right life insurance company for your situation. It’s a bit more complicated than simply finding a life insurance company that’s great for bundle branch block patients—you have to consider the other factors in your life such as your lifestyle choices, specific policy needs, and your other medical issues (if any).

If you choose just any life insurance company, then you may be denied a policy or you simply won’t get the best coverage possible. As an individual not working in the life insurance industry, it will prove difficult to figure out which life insurance company is best for your situation. That’s why you should turn to TermLife2Go.
