It’s not always an easy process to qualify for a great life insurance policy– in fact, sometimes it can be downright stressful!  And when you have an pre-existing medical condition in your medical history, we’ll you can just imagine what can happen!

But it doesn’t…

Have to be that way.  This is why we’ve chosen to write this article about applying for life insurance after you’ve been diagnosed with testicular cancer so that we can hopefully shed some light on what the process of applying for coverage will look like.  And hopefully answer any questions you may be wondering.  So, without further ado, let’s dive right into it by first answering the question…

What is Testicular Cancer?

We’ll the simple definition is that testicular cancer is “cancer that is located within the testicle!”  Pretty obvious, right?  It’s is but like most things in life, there is a little bit more to it that just that.

You see…

There are generally two types of testicular cancer one can develop, seminoma testicular cancer and nonseminoma testicular cancer.  The good news is that regardless of what “type” of testicular cancer you develop, both have a EXTREMELY high survival rate (95% and up)!

Which is why…

You’re going to find that qualifying for life insurance after you’ve been diagnosed with testicular cancer isn’t going to be impossible.  In fact, you may even be able to qualify for a Preferred status.

But before we get ahead of ourselves…

Let’s us just briefly discuss the two different “types” of testicular cancer that are possible so that if you are asked by your life insurance agent what “type” you have, you’ll easily be able to answer that question.

Seminoma testicular cancer.

Also known as pure seminoma or classical seminoma is a type of testicular cancer that originates in the germ cells of the testicle.   And while it is a malignant neoplasm, it is important to understand that it is one of the most treatable and curable cancers one can be diagnosed with survival rates exceeding 95% if diagnosed early.

Nonseminoma testicular cancer.

Nonseminoma testicular cancer is another type of testicular cancer that instead of origination within the seminoma germ cells will originate in another type of cells located within the testicle itself.  Nonseminoma may also be made up of several differ “types” of cells.

Nonseminoma testicular cancer is more common than seminoma and tend to grow faster than seminomas as well.  For this reason, nonseminomas can be more difficult to treat however if diagnosed early, they too have a very high survival rate ranging from 89 to 92%.

Symptoms

Some people with develop testicular cancer may experience no or very few symptoms. However, there may be a change in the way a testicle looks. This could be an enlargement, a lump, swelling, or just a change in the way it feels in general. People who develop testicular cancer may also have gynecomastia – excess breast tissue.

Important note…. Gynecomastia in males is NOT always due to seminoma.

Treatment for Seminoma.

Patients with testicular cancer will likely have to undergo surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, depending on how advanced the cancer is.

Potential complications.

In case the cancer is advanced, it could spread and take over other organs. Common places where seminoma is likely to spread in advanced stages include: lungs, spine, kidneys, stomach.

At this point we like to…

Remind folks that we’re not medical professionals, and we’re certainly not doctors, all we are is a bunch of life insurance agents who just happen to be really good at helping folks with pre-existing medical conditions qualify for awesome life insurance policies.

So…

If you have any specific medical questions you would like answer too, don’t bother asking us, we’re clearly not qualified to provide any medical, however if you’re looking to qualify for a great life insurance policy, well then… Keep on reading!

Qualifying for life insurance after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Since testicular cancer is one of the most “beatable” forms of cancers out there, it’s also one of the few types of cancer that does not immediately disqualify you from a Preferred life insurance rate.  Particularly if you “beat” our cancer some time ago!

Ten years ago or more…

Did you have testicular seminoma more than ten years ago? If yes and you have had no other types of cancer or complications after, then you might even qualify for a preferred life insurance rate.

To get a preferred rate after beating testicular cancer…

You must have great health and a non-risky lifestyle.

What is a risky lifestyle?

In order to get a preferred rate, you should not:

  • Smoke
  • Be a convicted felon
  • Have a substance abuse problem (now or in the past)
  • Have any DUIs on your driving record
  • Plan to travel to war zones like Syria or Yemen – even as a soldier

Testicular cancer within the last 10 years…

Was your testicular seminoma more recent? If yes, then you will usually not be able to qualify for a preferred rate. In fact, you aren’t likely to qualify for a standard rate either. But…you will still qualify for a term or whole life insurance policy.

Rate:

You will be underwritten for a Table A-J rate.

Difference between Table A and Table J…and everything in between.

Table rates are below standard rates. There are many different rates below standard – 10 in total. Table A rates are more affordable (ie: you pay less each month!) and Table J is the most expensive.

Getting a Table A Rate.

The trick to finding the most affordable life insurance with seminoma in your recent history, is to figure out which life insurance company will give you the best rate.

Things that will factor in:

Everything about your testicular cancer will factor in:

  • When did you have it?
  • What stage was it?
  • How long was your recovery?
  • What kind of treatment did you have?
  • Did you have any complications?

In addition to this, other things will factor into your rate.

  • Other health issues
  • Weight/ BMI
  • Blood Pressure
  • Cholesterol Levels

These things will all determine your life insurance rate.

But…

The tricky part is that this will all vary from one life insurance company to the next. That’s exactly why we can’t write an article that just tells you “Hey, this is the best life insurance company for people with testicular cancer.” Sure, the life insurance company may be right for some, but not for all. Since we don’t want to mislead anyone with false information, we encourage you to call TermLife2Go.
