Skiplagged App Review… More Than Just a Flight Comparison App

Review of skiplagged Mobile App

Are you trying to save money but don’t know where to start? Well, if you travel, then one of the easiest ways to save money is to figure out how to travel more affordably.

Notice we did not…

Say stop traveling because we here at TermLife2Go love traveling the globe and firmly believe that seeing new places contributes greatly to one’s overall health!

Since we’ve eliminated the option of traveling less, we now need to figure out how to travel more “frugally” if we want to both continue our travels and save money.

This is why…

We chose to include the Skiplagged App in our Top 20 Best Money Saving Apps article and why we wanted to take a moment and further discuss how the Skiplagged App can help you save money on your next trip.

So, what is Skiplagged?

Skiplagged is a bargain finder for flights. Now, we know what you’re thinking; there are dozens of “bargain finders” for flights out there.  And when you really take a close look at them, just about all of them are pretty much the same because they all take the same “approach” to looking for discounts.

Which is…

Most fight comparison apps simply look at what prices are being offered by the various airlines and presents them to you to consider.  But this isn’t how the Skipplagged app works.  Skipplagged takes a unique and novel approach to help its users to find the “best” and “most affordable” flights by its users which is what sets Skipplagged apart from its competition.

How does Skiplagged work?

Unlike other apps or websites that help you find cheap flights, Skiplagged has a twist: it doesn’t simply look for cheap flights. Instead, it looks for flights with layovers (which are actually your final destination) that might be cheaper than booking directly to your final destination.

For example:

You want to go from Denver to Atlanta. A flight costs $450. But a flight from Denver to Miami via Atlanta is actually $350. Skiplagged will recommend this flight to you, and the idea is that you will take your flight from Denver to Atlanta, but skip the flight from Atlanta to Miami.

Why are flights with layovers sometimes cheaper?

Well, we don’t pretend to know how airlines’ come up with their pricing schemes, but for some reason, they just are! It may sound ridiculous, but it’s a lot more common than you probably think.

Ok, so what’s the catch?

The only catch is that this won’t work if you need to check any luggage. Bags are checked to their final destination, so if you don’t take your final connecting flight and your bags do, then you’ll never see your belongings again! But, if you can manage to carry all your belongings in a carry-on bag, then this is a great way to save money.

Is SkipLagged legal?

Yes! It is 100% legal. United Airlines actually challenged SkipLagged in court, but they lost. Of course airlines don’t like the idea of this loophole app…but then again, as consumers who really likes the idea that an airline is charging more for a flight directly to a destination and less for a connecting flight to somewhere further?

Does it work on international flights?

Yes, it does. However, be sure you have the right visas in place each and every time you travel. It may also be a bit harder to pack all your bags in a carry-on bag, but if you can manage then it’s most definitely worth a try!

Potential Drawback of Skiplagged.

You might not always find a cheaper flight this way. But that’s not really a drawback, is it? It just means that like everything else in the world, Skiplagged has its own limitations and doesn’t work for everyone in every situation.

Who started Skiplagged?

This amazing app that can save you literally hundreds of dollars was started by a 22-year-old by the name of Aktarer Zamen. When he went to trial against United Airlines, patrons of Skiplagged set up a crowdfunding campaign to cover his legal expenses. They raised tens of thousands of dollars to keep their favorite travel site in business – and it’s still here today.

Now at this point we should probably…

Answer the question many of you may be asking yourself right now which is:

“Why is a life insurance brokerage writing a review about a money saving app like Skiplagged?”

Which is a perfectly natural question to have, and one that we’re more than happy to answer.
