Qualifying for Life Insurance with Sclerosing Cholangitis.

Are you looking to purchase life insurance but have a pre-existing medical condition like Sclerosing Cholangitis? If so, you probably have a lot of questions. You may have even been denied a traditional term or whole life insurance policy already!

But don’t fret…

You see, here at TermLife2Go, we have a ton of experience helping even the most “challenging” applicants find a life insurance policy that they can qualify for.  This is mainly because we work with so many different life insurance companies and because we offer a wide range of policies including:

So, chances are, we should have some “type” of insurance policy that you can qualify for.

Now will it be the right type of you?

That will depend.  It will depend on what your hopping to achieve by purchasing your life insurance policy as well as how much money the policy is going to cost.  But before we get into all that, let’s just take a moment and describe exactly what sclerosing cholangitis is and why life insurance companies are going to be so interested in the fact that you’ve been diagnosed with it!

What is Sclerosing Cholangitis?

Let’s start with defining this disease. Bile ducts are small passageways that allow for the flow of all your digestive liquid (bile) to flow from the liver (where all that stuff is processed) to the small intestine (where that stuff travels to eventually get discarded from your body).

Sclerosing Cholangitis is a disease that occurs in the “bile” passageways located between the liver and the small intestine called bile ducts.  These bile ducts are small passageways that allow for the flow of all your digestive liquid (bile) to flow from the liver (where all that stuff is processed) to the small intestine (where that stuff travels to eventually get discarded from your body).

During sclerosing cholangitis, these bile ducts become inflamed and scarred which causes interference with the transport of this waste.

Which means your body has a hard time getting rid of all the waste, which can be bad for you.

As a result…

Some people with Sclerosing Cholangitis wind up having liver failure – because the waste gets so backed up.

Treating/Caring for Sclerosing Cholangitis.

Unfortuantely, there are no cures for sclerosing cholangitis, but there are some treatment options to mitigate the complications.

Complications such as:

Itching – since itching is a major factor side effect, most people will want to take antibiotics and/or antihistamines for this.

Infections – infections are almost guaranteed since the bile is getting backed up

Vitamins and Diet Changes – Making changes to a healthier diet and supplementing your diet with vitamins will help you to stay healthy.

Now it’s at this point…

That we like to remind folks that we here at TermLife2Go are not doctors.  Nor do we have any medical training at all.  All we are is a bunch of life insurance agents who just happen to be really good at helping folks with pre-existing medical conditions find life insurance policies that they can qualify for.

If you have any specific medical questions, please save those for you doctor, we’re not going to be able to help you out with those.  But if all you need help with is finding a great life insurance policy that you can qualify for well then… keep on reading!

Qualifying Life Insurance with Sclerosing Cholangitis

Life insurance companies underwrite policies based on risk levels. Unfortunately, if you have sclerosing cholangitis it means your body has a very hard time to get rid of bile – and this is extremely dangerous. Seeing as there is no cure or effective treatment to slow down or stop sclerosing cholangitis, what you’re going to find is that most if not all life insurance companies are not going to be willing to approve you for a traditional term or whole life insurance policies.

Will you be ineligible for “all” life insurance policies?

Not entirely. Yes, you are ineligible for term and whole – which are generally the most preferred kinds of life insurance – but that does not mean you will be ineligible for all life insurance.  It just means that you’re going to need to pursue an alternative insurance product like an accidental death insurance policy or a guaranteed issue life insurance policy.

Now in this article…

We don’t particularly want to spend a ton of time going over all of the exact details of what Accidental Death Policies are, (even though we feel that they have “value” in certain situations) mainly because we know that most of our clients aren’t looking “ACCIDENT” insurance policies, they’re looking for a “LIFE” insurance policy!

If you are interested in pursuing an accidental death policy or would simply like to learn more about how they work, feel free to check out this article: Accidental Death Insurance, Pros-Cons or simply give us a call and we’d be happy to help you out!

With that said, let’s now turn our attention to another “type” of alternative insurance which is called a Guaranteed Life Insurance Policy.

Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance Policies.

Guaranteed issue life insurance life policies are life insurance policies that you don’t have to be healthy to qualify for.  In fact, guaranteed issue life insurance policies aren’t going to ask you any medical questions or require you to take a medical exam.

There really are only three things that are going to matter when it comes time to purchasing a guaranteed issue life insurance policy:

  • Are you a US citizen?
  • Do you live in a state where these types of life insurance policies are offered?
  • And do you meet the minimum age requirements for applying?

If you meet these three criteria, you should “theoretically” be eligible.

But just because…

You can purchase a guaranteed issue life insurance policy doesn’t mean that you should purchase a guaranteed issue life insurance policy.  You see, these “types” of life insurance policies will have their potential disadvantages that you should be aware which include:

  • Low policy limits.
  • A “bit” pricey for the amount of coverage being purchased.
  • And guaranteed issue life insurance policies will contain a graded death benefit which will place limitations on when your life insurance policy will begin covering your for “natural” causes of death.

Now we know…
