Qualifying for Life Insurance with Pancytopenia.

In this article, we want to discuss what it will be like to apply for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy after you been diagnosed with a pre-existing medical condition like pancytopenia.

You see…

When it comes to qualifying for a fully underwritten term or whole life insurance policy, not only are insurance companies going to be interested in your current health status, they’re also going to be interested in any pre-existing medical conditions you’ve “ever” been diagnosed with.

Which means that…

If you’ve been diagnosed with a condition like pancytopenia, whether it was two years ago or two hours ago, in either case, life insurance companies are going to want to know all about it.

Now does this mean…

That it’s going to be impossible for you to qualify for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy?  No, it doesn’t.

All it really means is that you’re going to want to be careful “which” life insurance company that you ultimately decide to apply for coverage with because…

“Not all life insurance companies are going to “consider” your

pancytopenia the same.”

In fact…

You may receive a wide range of reactions depending on which life insurance companies you talk to which is why it’s so important to work with an agent that is very familiar with your condition.

But don’t fret…

You see here at TermLife2Go, we have a ton of experience helping folks with pre-existing medical conditions like pancytopenia qualify for coverage, and we can help you find a great life insurance policy that hopefully will meet all of your needs.

Now we do this by…

First, understanding exactly what you hope to achieve by purchasing your life insurance, and then applying our knowledge of the insurance industry to try to pair you up with insurance company that is going to best meet your needs.

And to do this best we first need to have a thorough understanding of what your condition is

So, what is pancytopenia and why do life insurance companies care about it?

Pancytopenia is a blood disorder which is defined as a deficiency of all three cellular components of the blood (red cells, white cells and platelets).  So essentially, if you suffer from pancytopenia, you’re essentially suffering from a combination of:

  • Anemia (low red blood cell count),
  • Leukopenia (low white blood cell count),
  • And thrombocytopenia (low platelet count).

Pancytopenia is typically caused by some type of problem within one’s bone marrow which may be caused due to:

  • Exposure to certain medications or chemicals,
  • Cancers that affect the bone marrow,
  • Aplastic anemia,
  • Viral infections,
  • Diseases of the bone marrow such as Gaucher disease.
  • Vitamin deficiencies,
  • Liver disease,
  • Autoimmune diseases.

It should be noted that in about half of all individuals suffering from pancytopenia no “official” cause will be identified.  Cases like these are generally referred to as idiopathic pancytopenia.

Now at this point…

We generally like to remind folks that we’re not medical professionals and we’re certainly not doctors.  Which means that if you have any specific medical questions, we’re the last folks you want to ask!  However, if all you’re looking for is help qualifying for a great life insurance policy, well then… Keep on reading!

Qualifying for life insurance with pancytopenia.

Now as we just mentioned, pancytopenia can be caused by a wide variety of medical conditions.  Some serious, some not so serious.  T

hen throw in the fact that nearly 50% of all pancytopenia cases will have no known cause is certainly going to complicate matters when applying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.

The first question that we’re going to want to ask is: “Do you know what caused your pancytopenia?”  If so, that “cause” will typically be our “guide” to what “types” of life insurance policies you’ll be eligible for as well as what “price” you may be expected to pay.

You see…

If your pancytopenia is due to some type of bone marrow cancer, well… then… we don’t really need to worry about the fact that you’ve been diagnosed with pancytopenia since your cancer diagnosis is going to “trump” that diagnosis.

If your pancytopenia, is due to some type of vitamin deficiency, which isn’t related to some type of medical disorder, well… then… let’s take our vitamins and qualify for a great rate!

So whatcha got?

Now we fully…

Understand that at this point, we really haven’t given any “concrete” answers to how life insurance companies are going to “underwrite” clients who have been diagnosed with pancytopenia, but this is because with a condition like pancytopenia, it’s tough to give a “concrete” or definitive answer!

What we can say…

Is that as a general “rule of thumb”, if you’ve been diagnosed with pancytopenia regardless of why, most if not all life insurance companies are going to want to see that you are now fully recovered and have not had any irregular blood samples for at least one year before they will consider you eligible for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.

In addition…

Once you become “eligible” for coverage, most life insurance companies are going to refuse to approve you at a Preferred or Standard rate and will most likely only be willing to approve you at what is called a Table A or lower rate.

Table Rates.

Table rates are life insurance rates are life insurance rates that fall just below standard rates and are generally reserved for “higher” risk applicants.  In total, there are 10 possible table rates one can qualify for, ranging from Table A (the best or least expensive table rate) all the way to table J (the worst or most expensive table rate).

The trick for those…

Who have been diagnosed with pancytopenia and can demonstrate one year of recovery is to find a company that will be willing to approve them at a Table A rate.  The good news is that here at TermLife2Go, we can help with that.

You see…

Here at TermLife2Go, we have a ton of experience working with individuals with all sorts of pre-existing medical conditions.  And the one thing that we’ve found to be the most helpful in helping these individuals find a great life insurance policy is to have access to dozens of different life insurance companies.

Each of these life insurance companies is going to have a different set of underwriting guidelines, some of which may be more lenient than others when it comes to approving an individual who has been diagnosed with pancytopenia.

Plus, it’s important to remember that you’re more than just someone who has been diagnosed with pancytopenia which means that while pancytopenia will certainly play a role in the outcome of your life insurance application, it won’t be the only factor it may not even be the most important factor!

We would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that there will be some individuals who simply won’t be able to qualify for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.  These individuals may need to consider a guaranteed life insurance policy which will not take “health” into account when approving one’s life insurance application.

The good news is that…

We here at TermLife2go offer both traditional and “alternative” life insurance products!  So, what are you waiting for?  Give us a call today or visit our Term Life Insurance Quotes page and see what we can do for you!
