If you have neuritis, then you might be wondering about your life insurance eligibility.
- Can you still qualify for term or whole life insurance with neuritis?
- Which insurance company will offer you the best life insurance quote?
- Will you have to take a medical exam?
- Or can you qualify for a no medical exam life insurance policy?
- What rates should you expect?
- Etc, etc…
And while we’re sure…
We’re not going to be able to answer all of your questions here in this short article about qualifying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy with a pre-existing medical condition like neuritis, but we’re sure going to give it a try!
So, without further ado, let’s dive right into it by first defining exactly what neuritis is and describing exactly why a life insurance company is going to be interested in the fact that you’ve been diagnosed with it!
Neuritis is a disease in which the nerves get inflamed. Since there are many nerves in the body, the term can mean a lot of different things depending on which nerve is inflamed.
Two most common types of neuritis:
- Peripheral neuritis
- Optic neuritis
Less common types of neuritis (list is not all inclusive):
- Arsenic neuritis
- Brachial neuritis
- Cranial neuritis
- Lumbosacral neuritis
- Sensory Motor polyneuropathy
- Vestibular neuritis
This is a very short list of types of neuritis. Actually, there are many other types.
The Cause of Neuritis.
Most of the time, people who get neuritis are older (mid-fifties and above). Often times it’s uncertain as to what has caused neuritis. However, usually it is caused:
- Nutrient deficiency (usually Vitamin B1, B2, B6 or B12)
- by another disease that impacts blood supply deliver to various nerves or a nutrient deficiency.
- Infections (includes but not limited to leprosy, herpes, diphtheria)
- Predisposing Diseases (includes but not limited to: autoimmune, diabetes mellitus, some cancers)
- Injury to a nerve
- Toxins (environmental or medical)
- Genetic (only true of certain types of neuritis)
Qualifying for Life Insurance with Neuritis.
Since the term “neuritis” includes so many different kinds of neuritis, there isn’t a straightforward answer. Things your prospective life insurance company will want to know include:
- Type of Neuritis
- Have you recovered? If so, when?
- Root cause? (i.e. other sicknesses)
These things will help a life insurance company determine how to underwrite a policy for you.
Will you qualify for term or whole life insurance?
In all likelihood, yes. At least, that’s to say that neuritis won’t be the cause of you being disqualified from qualifying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.
Yes, other ailments may disqualify you. But neuritis? Not likely.
Now, if you…
Have recovered from neuritis then you will probably be underwritten for a life insurance policy. This is true for people who have neuritis, cause unknown.
Keep in Mind: if neuritis is the result of another disease, there is a chance that you can be disqualified not because of neuritis, but because of the other disease.
Qualifying rates for those with Neuritis.
A life insurance underwriter will probably underwrite a policy for you with a Table A-C rating. That’s not quite as good as the standard rate, but it could still be worse (Table rates go all the way to J!).
Getting a Higher Table Rate.
To qualify for a better table rate, you need to find the right life insurance company. Two different life insurance companies may underwrite your policy very differently. We can’t make a standard recommendation of a life insurance company, though, because each case is different.
Your unique situation – and all of your health issues and non-issues- will impact your rate. The best thing you can do is get expert advice from trusted professionals like us at TermLife2Go.
Getting Life Insurance with Optic Neuritis.
People who apply for life insurance with optic neuritis can also qualify for term or whole life insurance. However, the only difference is that with optic neuritis, your rate can go as low as Table H.
Remember: there are a lot of things that can impact your rate for better or for worse. It’s just about finding that life insurance company that will rate your “issues” as less of a risk. If you just choose a life insurance company out of a hat or because you like their website or TV commercial, you might be choosing a life insurance company that won’t rate you as favorably.
