INSTANT QUOTE

Qualify for Life Insurance After Being Diagnosed with Heat Disease.

Whenever we have a client that is looking for a life insurance quote after they’ve been diagnosed with heart disease, the first thing we need to determine is:

“What is the CLIENTS definition of heart disease?”

Does the CLIENTS definition of heart disease mean that they’ve been diagnosed with:

  • Coronary artery disease?
  • Ischemic heart disease?
  • Or atherosclerosis?

Or maybe their definition is defined by the fact they’ve been told they have heart disease because they’ve:

  • Had a heart attack.
  • Suffered from a stroke.
  • Received a pacemaker.
  • Had an artificial valve replacement surgery performed.
  • Ect, etc…

You see, being told you have “heart disease” could mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.  It’s also going to mean a lot of different things to an insurance company as well.

That being said however….

Most of the time, if someone has been diagnosed with heart disease it is because they suffer from atherosclerosis.  So before we go any further in our discussion about heath disease and life insurance, we want to first take a moment and describe exactly what atherosclerosis is and  how it will play a major role in determining the outcome of ones’ life insurance application.

Atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis is a disease that is defined by the hardening and narrowing of the arteries due to plaque buildup within the inner lining of the artery wall.

This narrowing of the artery itself is what can ultimately lead to one suffering from a heart attack or a stroke and, when left untreated can also lead to peripheral vascular disease as well.

It is these three conditions which are then generally referred to as “cardiovascular disease”.

It should be noted that…

Cardiovascular disease is not something that you contract “overnight”, instead, it is a condition that slowly progresses over times as damage to the endothelium cells within the artery walls are slowly degraded due to:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension).
  • And/or high cholesterol.

Which, over time, if left untreated, individuals may begin to experience a wide range of medical condition such as:

  • Heart attack.
  • Transient ischemic attack (TIA’s).
  • Difficulty healing form cuts.
  • Erectile dysfunction.

Cardiovascular disease and life insurance.

Now as you can see, cardiovascular disease is directly linked to being diagnosed with atherosclerosis, which is directly linked to suffering from a whole host of other medical conditions which are certainly going to make most life insurance companies nervous.

This is why…

Prior to applying for life insurance, we want to make sure that we have a complete understanding of your medical history, as well as, have a firm grasp of your current health status.

Because, here’s the deal…

If you’ve suffered from a stroke and/or heart attack in the past, or have suffered from some other cardiovascular related disease, there’s still a really good chance that you will be eligible for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy, we’re just going to need to know about it so that we can try to determine what role it will play in the outcome of your life insurance application.

Now in order to learn more about your cardiovascular disease, we generally like to ask question such as:

  • How old are you now?
  • What is your current height and weight?
  • When were you first diagnosed with cardiovascular disease?
  • Who diagnosed your cardiovascular disease? A general practitioner or a cardiologist?
  • Have you ever been diagnosed with any pre-existing medical conditions?
  • Have you ever suffered from a heart attack, stroke or cancer?
  • What prescription medications are you taking now?
  • In the past 12 months have you used any tobacco or nicotine products?
  • Have you need to visit the hospital or emergency room for any reason in the past 2 years?
  • Are you currently working now?
  • In the past 12 months have you applied for or received any form of disability benefits?

Then with these questions answered, we’ll typically have a better idea about “why” you’ve been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and how it may or may not affect your life insurance application.

Now up until now…

We’ve been a bit “vague” about what one will or won’t be eligible for when it comes to qualifying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.

And we’ve done this on purpose…

Because, when it comes determining what someone will and won’t qualify for after being diagnosed with heart disease, there really aren’t any definitive answers one can give without really knowing the specifics of your situation.

For example…

If you have just recently (less than six months ago) suffered from a heart attack or a stroke, there’s probably a really good chance that you’re not going to be eligible for a traditional life insurance policy right now.  Which means that you’ll generally have two options.

  • You can either go without life insurance until some point in the future when you may become eligible.
  • Or you can pursue a Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance policy.

Conversely,  if you’ve suffered from a heart attack or a stroke, but it happened over a year ago, and you’re in good health now, it’s quite possible that you may be eligible for coverage, and you may even qualify for a Standard rate!

We just won’t know till we learn more about you.

So, what type of candidate are you?

We’d love to find out!  Because here at TermLife2Go, we specialize in helping those more “challenging” individuals find insurance.  This is why we’ve worked so hard in developing relationships with dozens of different life insurance companies so that when it comes time to helping someone with a pre-existing medical condition like heart disease, we’re going to have plenty of options to explore.
