Helping someone qualify for life insurance policy after they’ve been prescribed Lasix (furosemide) can often be a tricky proposition.
This is because…
Lasix or furosemide is a prescription diuretic used to treat edema (fluid retention) which may or may not be a “big deal” as well as swelling/edema that is caused by:
- Congestive heart failure,
- Liver disease,
- Kidney disease,
- As well as a wide variety of other pre-existing medical conditions.
Now when it comes…
To those folks who are simply using Lasix to treat an occasional “bout” of edema or cyclical edema, what you’re generally going to find is that in “theory” you should still be able to qualify for a Preferred rate when applying for a traditional life insurance policy.
You may even be able to qualify for a No Medical Exam life insurance policy as well!
That said however…
If your Lasix is being prescribed to help treat edema that is being caused by a more serious medical condition, chances are you’re going to have a much more difficult time qualifying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy.
You may even have to “settle” for a guaranteed acceptance life insurance policy if your pre-existing medical condition proves too serious to be approved for a traditional life insurance policy.
The good news is that…
Here at TermLife2go, we offer both “traditional” life insurance policies as well as “alternative” life insurance policies such as guaranteed acceptance life insurance policies so all we need to do is figure out what you wish to “achieve” by purchasing your life insurance policy and then try to match you up with an insurance policy that will meet your needs.
Hope to achieve…. What does that mean?
Everyone that chooses to purchase a life insurance policy will generally have a different reason for doing so. Some folks will be looking to:
- Protect a spouse or a child,
- Cover the cost of mortgage,
- Satisfy a divorce decree,
- Or maybe simply cover one’s burial expenses.
Why you want to purchase a life insurance policy will tell us a lot about what “type” of life insurance policy we’re going to want to look at. This can be particularly helpful when working with an individual who has some serious pre-existing medical conditions, because if you only require a “small” life insurance policy, it may be possible to “avoid” answering any medical questions or take a medical exam and still be approved for coverage!
If we have an individual who is using Lasix to help treat edema that is a direct result of kidney or liver failure, we’re going to know right away that this individual is probably not going to be able to qualify for a “traditional” life insurance policy which will use one’s health as a determinant on who will be approved for coverage.
For folks like this…
It may make sense to pursue an “alternative” life insurance product like a guaranteed acceptance life insurance policy, provided that their insurance needs are small ($25,000 or less).
If this same applicant actually does have a real need for a large life insurance policy, they may consider purchasing SEVERAL guaranteed issue life insurance policies from multiple insurance carriers and perhaps supplement that coverage with an accidental death policy (accidental death policies are not “true” life insurance policies and will only cover accidental causes of death. Natural causes of death such as heart attack, cancer, stroke or diabetes will not be covered under an accidental death policy).
We’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t going to be the most “ideal” situation (or most affordable) for an individual, but our role here at TermLife2Go is to try and find the “best” life insurance policy that an individual can qualify for and allow the client to ultimately make the decision on what is and what isn’t best for their family.
Sometimes that means informing a client that they aren’t going to be able to qualify for a traditional life insurance policy right now, and try to provide them with some alternative methods to being able to provide coverage for their loved ones.
Which is why…
TermLife2Go has worked so hard to develop relationships with dozens of highly rated life insurance companies so that when we do encounter a more “challenging’ applicant, we should have plenty of options for them to consider.
Now will we be able to help everyone?
No, there will be some folks that we simply aren’t able to find coverage for. But that does not mean that we’re not going to first try our very BEST to make sure that doesn’t happen.
