Ipratropium Bromide or Atrovent is a prescription medication that is sure to “peak” an insurance underwriters interest when seeing it on a traditional term life insurance or whole life insurance application mainly because it is frequently used to help alleviate many of the symptoms associated with some pretty serious pre-existing medical conditions.
Conditions such as:
- Chronic lung disease.
- And Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which includes:
- Bronchitis and emphysema.
Which are all…
Conditions which are “theoretically” insurable however, the “rate” that you will qualify for will vary greatly from one client to the next which is why the insurance companies are likely to want to ask you a series of questions before they will being considering your traditional term or whole life insurance application for approval.
Common questions you’ll likely be ask may include:
- When were you first prescribed Ipratropium Bromide or Atrovent?
- How long have you been taking your Ipratropium?
- Why were you prescribed Ipratropium?
- Are you taking any other prescription medications?
- Have you ever been hospitalized due to your condition?
- Have you been diagnosed with any other pre-existing medical conditions?
- What is your current height and weight?
- In the past 12 months have you used any tobacco or nicotine products?
- Are you currently working now?
- In the past 12 months have you applied for or received any type of disability benefits.
From here, the insurance companies will generally have a pretty good idea what “type” of life insurance policy you may be able to qualify for:
- A traditional term life insurance or whole life insurance policy (life insurance policies that will require you to take a medical exam).
- A Simplified issue life insurance policy or no medical exam life insurance policy.
- Or a Guaranteed Acceptance life insurance policy.
They’ll also have a pretty good idea what “rate” you may be eligible for as well.
The good news is…
That we here at TermLife2Go will also have a pretty good idea of what “type” of life insurance policy you may or may not be eligible for and at what rate, the only difference is that we’ll use this information to help guide you to the insurance company that we feel will give you the “best” opportunity for success rather than simply “label” you a particular rate class.
Here at TermLife2Go, we have chosen to remain an independent life insurance brokerage that is able to work with dozens of different life insurance companies so that when we do encounter an individual that is taking Ipratropium to treat their pre-existing lung condition, we don’t need to simply rely on the decision-making processes of just one or two different life insurance companies.
We’re able to “shop” dozens of different life insurance companies simultaneously so that we can receive multiple quotes from multiple DIFFERENT insurance companies!
Now will individuals who have been prescribed Ipratropium be able to qualify for a Preferred Plus Rate when applying for a traditional term or whole life insurance policy?
No probably not. In fact, the “best” rate that most folks who have been prescribed Ipratropium can hope for would be a Table A rate, which is a life insurance rate that falls just below a Standard rating. And this of course is only if your lung condition is being well “managed” by Ipratropium and you have not used any tobacco or nicotine products for at least 12 months.
But don’t fret…
Just because you can’t qualify for a Preferred Plus rate doesn’t mean that you’re going to need to pay a fortune for your insurance. It just means that we’re first going to want to make sure that we try to determine “which” insurance companies are the most likely to offer you a Table A and which one of those companies is going to have the “best” Table A pricing!
And if this all..
Sounds pretty confusing, don’t worry about a thing. Here at TermLife2Go, we understand that most people don’t “like” shopping for life insurance and at times can “feel” a bit intimidated by all of the options that are out there. Which is why we also like to explain things one step at a time and make it clear to folks that because we offer just about every “type” of life insurance policy that is out there, we don’t really care which type you buy.
We just want to make sure…
That the “type” of life insurance policy that you’re buying is the right “type” for you and your family and that when you make this decision, you are making it because you fully understand all of your options!
