We’ll be the first to admit that we don’t often get asked by clients if their Junel Fe prescription medication is going to affect their life insurance application, but we have in the past, which is why we decided to pick the top 10 or so birth control medications and write a brief article on each.
The reason why we decided…
To do this is because, you know that if there is at least one person “brave” enough to ask the question, you can bet there are probably another hundred if not thousand or so people wondering the same thing. So here we go….
Will a prescription for Junel Fe affect the outcome of your life insurance application?
No, it shouldn’t have any effect on your life insurance application.
About Junel Fe and why it shouldn’t play a role in your life insurance application:
Junel Fe (norethindrone, acetate, ethinyl, estradiol, ferrous fumarate) is a prescription medication that can be used for two purposes. First, it can be used as a contraception medication to prevent pregnancy, a secondly, it can be used to treat severe acne. Clearly two conditions that are not going to raise any “red flags” when it comes to applying for life insurance.
So if Junel Fe won’t be an issue, what might play a role in my life insurance application?
Generally, when we do have a client tell us about their prescription birth control, its usually a client that is “pretty nervous” about the whole idea of applying for life insurance.
After all, there are very few products out there that you actually have to “qualify for” to be able to purchase and one would be hard pressed to think of another product where you might actually have to provide a blood and urine sample just for the privilege to buy it, right?
So to help shed light on just some of the things that an insurance company will be interested in, let’s just take a look at some of the more common life insurance application questions so that you can get a feel for what the insurance companies are interested in.
Common questions found on most traditional life insurance applications:
- Height and weight?
- Do you have any pre-existing medical conditions?
- Have you ever been diagnosed with cancer, heart disease stroke or diabetes?
- Has any of your immediate family members ever been diagnosed with cancer, heart disease, stroke or diabetes?
- Are you currently taking any other prescription medications other than your Junel Fe?
- In the past 12 months have you used any tobacco or nicotine products?
- Do you have any issues with your driver’s license such as a suspended license, multiple moving violations or DUI?
- Do you have any set plans to travel outside of the United States in the next 2 years?
- Do you participate in any dangerous hobbies or activities such as sky diving, hang gliding or rock climbing?
- Have you declared bankruptcy in the past 2 years?
- Have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor?
Now as you can see, some of these questions make total sense, for example if you’ve been diagnosed with heart disease, it’s pretty obvious why an insurance company would want to know about it, but what about the travel questions or the bankruptcy questions? Why do insurance companies care about stuff?
We wish we could give you…
The “official” answer but we really can’t simply because these “types” of questions are generated by the insurance companies directly. We just use them here at TermLife2Go to help determine which life insurance company is going to be the best for you.
For example: Let’s assume that you’re in great shape, with terrible credit and have a passion for bungie jumping!
Chances are you’re going to have a pretty tough time finding that perfect life insurance policy unless you know where to look and you choose to apply with a life insurance brokerage that is going to be able to comparison shop for you.
