Buying Life Insurance While Taking Cialis.

You might also want to familiarize yourself with our Top 10 Favorite Companies and Top No Exam Companies articles.

I guess one could say that the good news is, that if you’ve been prescribed Cialis, it’s probably because your doctor says that:

“Your hearts healthy enough for sexual activity”

(at least that’s what the TV commercials say!)

So good for you!

But that’s not the only condition that Cialis can be prescribed for, so for this reason, let’s take a closer look at Cialis and discuss some of the other conditions it can also be prescribed for.

About Cialis:

Cialis (tadalafil) is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate).  Cialis works by relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow to particular areas of the body.

Erectile Dysfunction:

Erectile dysfunction is typically defined as the inability to maintain an erection for a sufficiently long enough time to perform sexual activity.

Now in general, assuming that there are no other pre-existing medical conditions that could be preventing adequate blood flow to maintain an erection, using Cialis to treat your erectile dysfunction should not have any negative effect on your life insurance application what-so-ever.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH),

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is defined as an enlarged prostate gland.  Benign prostatic hyperplasia is NOT cancer and is typically characterized by frequent urges to urinate, and difficult maintain a “steady stream” during urination.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is also not a major concern for life insurance companies however because BPH does share many common characteristics with prostate cancer, prostate cancer will need to be ruled out prior to being approved for your coverage.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Exam.

PSA: Prostate Specific Antigen.

PSA is a protein produced by the prostate gland, which can be used to screen for cancer and monitor the treatment of the disease.

Prostate Cancer vs Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia..

Prostate cancer is cancer that occurs in a man’s prostate gland.  It is characterized by many of the same symptoms as benign prostatic hyperplasia such as:

  • Frequent urges to urinate.
  • Difficult starting urination or holding back urine
  • Weak and interrupted flow.

With the addition of other symptoms which may include:

  • Painful or burning urination.
  • Difficulty having an erection.
  • Painful ejaculation.
  • Blood in urine or semen.
  • And frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hip or upper things.

And…

it goes without saying that anyone experiencing any of the previous symptoms should consult with his doctor.

Qualifying for Life Insurance with Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The good news is that if you’re simply using your Cialis prescription to help reduce the symptoms that you’re experiencing as a result of your benign prostatic hyperplasia, you’re really not going to have an issue getting life insurance.

In fact, it’s not uncommon for many of these applicants to qualify for the best possible rate available, a “Preferred Plus”.  It’s mainly going to come down to what your current PSA level is.

So…

If your PSA level is 4 or lower, then you should be able to qualify for a preferred plus rate class, assuming no other health issues apply.

That being said however, older men can have a higher PSA level and still qualify for a preferred rate class.  For example, a PSA under 5.5 for a 60 year old male may still qualify for the best rate.

Similarly, a 70 year old man with a PSA under 7 can also qualify for the best rate class. Once again, assuming no other health issues.

The basic take away…

The basic take away should be for all those using Cialis is, that you’re probably not going to encounter any issues during your life insurance application simply because your using it.

But this does not mean that you shouldn’t be vigilant about how you apply for coverage.
